and other London art collections
Expert led by LYDIA BAUMAN, artist, art historian and National Gallery guide since 1986.
Lydia is a graduate of the Courtauld Institute of Art London. She has experience of a wide variety of audiences, having worked as guest speaker for Arts Society in the UK and in New Zealand; Martin Randall Tours; Noble Caledonia cruises, as well as lecturing in the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Arts Club of Chicago, the Tate Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery London.
Lydia is passionate about making art accessible and enjoyable to all. Her teaching style is informal, jargon free, informative and entertaining. She has deep knowledge of European art from the Middle Ages to the 20th Century. Her unique style is enhanced by her knowledge and hands on experience of the artist’s craft.
Do you love art but need a little helping hand to make you understand and enjoy it more? I look forward to taking you into the magnificent world of paintings of Masters old and new, whose stories – surprisingly familiar to us today – will enthral, delight and entertain you. Let us put together a journey through art to suit your interests and tastes – be it serious and scholarly or irreverent, sexy and fun.

TESTIMONIALS
“I have nothing but praise for Lydia Bauman’s lectures and talks. Her approach to any subject or any artist always has breadth as well as depth, always beautifully illustrated and always an enriching experience. As an established artist herself, she speaks with rare authority.” LT ( Blue Badge guide)
“ I look forward to your lectures. They will of course be filled with your encyclopedic knowledge of the subject – painting, artist, art movement or technique – but I know you will also fill them with stories, surprises, adventures, history, travel, film or music, and most importantly your love of the subject.” (Student)
“…Her breadth of knowledge is quite breathtaking and she doesn’t just talk about individual paintings. She weaves a narrative where the sum of the parts gives you a real sense of the background and context of the art around you. Lydia is a natural enthusiast and her energy for the subject engages people immediately. Her delivery is nicely in tune with the surroundings and she has a wry sense of humour that lifts her presentation from the deeply academic to the very accessible for the non-specialist. Her own artistic skills also are a clear influence.” (Corporate Client)
